KEEPING YOUR SANITY, and MAKE A PROFIT?

Tom"GOING GREEN" can be frustrating, overwhelming and expensive! It’s challenging – nearly impossible – to:
  • Navigate the confusing landscape of local and federal regulations

  • Determine the return on investment (ROI) of new technologies

  • Slog through certification paperwork

You CAN simplify "GOING GREEN" and MAKE A PROFIT!

Tom Coalson offers a pragmatic approach and decades of experience to help developers, contractors, and real estate professionals adopt sustainable building practices.

Tom offers a clear path to make "going green" simple, practical, and profitable!

  • Get your projects LEED certified.

  • Get rebates, grants, and incentives.

  • Manage sustainable building projects.

  • Ensure your sustainable building project reaps a profit.

  • Navigate the changing landscape of new green technologies.

  • Guarantee high ROI from start to finish, by saving costs and ensuring long-term profit.

  • Learn the local and federal laws and regulations that apply to your project.

  • Incorporate responsible building practices that save time, costs, and materials; help the environment; and make everyone on the team proud of their contribution.

  • Overcome the overwhelm – make sustainable building practices simple and profitable!

EXPERIENCE

Tom Coalson, LEED-AP, PMP has been actively engaged in environmental issues since 1969 and has been studying its every aspect since “discovering” Rachel Carson’s book, Silent Spring in 1965.

I am what I would term a realistic environmentalist, one who has been practicing sustainable building practices on large residential and commercial projects for almost four decades.

I have endured the relentlessly and painfully slow pace by which we, as a nation, have come to this point in history. From that experience, I can understand the continued reluctance to engage green building practices by many contractors who can’t find enough work to keep their employees busy in this dreadful economy.

Although many of us in the industry are fully aware that to build sustainably doesn’t need to cost any more than to build conventionally, and in some cases can actually be more economical in both the short and long term, there is a lingering and persistent idea out there that “green” is more expensive.

To say more and try to argue the point here would only serve to bolster the opinions of some while not adding anything substantive to the discussion for others. The point here is that the perception (erroneous though it is) that sustainable construction costs more still persists despite all the very public evidence to the contrary. It clearly indicates that those of us who know better have not done a good enough job in making the facts accessible.

PASSION

Environmentalists the world over agree that our planet is standing on the edge of a chasm so deep, we cannot yet see the bottom.
I have a vision that looks well beyond our differences and deeper still into our commonalities, a dynamic vision of what we can and what we must achieve together. It is a compelling vision of a world where the skies are clean and blue, the water fresh and clear, the food safe to eat and where all have a place at the table.GREEN TRAINER

While there are some who excitedly cluck that “the sky is falling,” there are many others who recognize that there is an urgent need to act, and to act quickly.

While action plans have been drawn, maps charted and foundations laid, most environmentalists continue to define themselves within camps or cliques, each aligning themselves with their own particular brand of salvation. As long as this continues, the opportunities available to us today to bridge the deep divide and avert disaster will pass us by, and we will then learn just how deep that chasm is, and how dark.GREEN TRAINER

Today, more than any other time in this country’s history, we have the unique opportunity to take what science has taught us and fate has brought us to turn back the effects of a century and a half of neglect and achieve what no one thought possible: a world where everyone is a participant in their own destiny. This is a vision whose time is now and whose need is critical.

KNOWLEDGE

During the last 30 years, it has been my privilege to serve as Vice President and General Manager for several companies, all of whom benefited by increased profits, lower overhead, higher employee retention and greater liquidity.
More importantly, during my tenure each of those companies was recognized by the communities they served as an active leader in opening the way for sustainable development and affordable housing.

It was with great pleasure that I have served on numerous committees for various industry-related organizations and it is still a matter of some pride that I played a central role in achieving consensus between government agencies, groups such as the Environmental Defense Fund and the Sierra Club and regional developers to achieve practical, realistic solutions to affordable housing shortages and profitability goals.

The core policies of serving the community with sustainable business practices has led to consistent prosperity for all involved, proving the fact that sustainability is not only the right thing to do, it is the most economical.

With an unshakable belief in the principle of synergy, I have developed teams within each organization following these simple guidelines: if trained well, encouraged often and treated with respect, the combined efforts of each individual team member will always be greater than the simple sum of its parts. As a result, I have always been able to originate teams that are highly motivated and productive and that are the “best of the best” in their field.GREEN TRAINER

Having actively incorporated “green” or sustainable principles into my management strategy since 1976, I continue to find it extremely important to be “socially active,” and have joined and participated in numerous industry and non-profit organizations.GREEN TRAINER

Networking within the industry and government has consistently allowed the organizations I have led to stay ahead of the curve, and continuing research and education has kept them on the leading edge.

That combination has consistently delivered socially-aware (and well respected) organizations that are always at the forefront of their industries by publicly sharing a compelling vision for the future that is pragmatic and achievable, economically viable and providing sustainability and social equity for all.
